Sunday morning dawned
bright and clear and found us headed to the village of Wheatfields, AZ,
about 130 miles from Many Waters. For purposes of information, it is
important to know that the Navajo nation covers an area about the size of
the state of West Virginia and is located in parts of New Mexico, Arizona,
Colorado and Utah. When Don and Lynn came to this area in 1979/80 a
recent survey had shown that there were only 7 committed Christians
among the 40,000 Navajo who lived in the immediate area Don and Lynn felt
called to!
The congregation
at Wheatfields was among the first to come to the Lord. The church
building is located about 3 miles east of the village along a dirt road which
is maintained only for school buses during the school year. What began in
a 10' by 20' shack is now a growing fellowship known as 'Jordan River Church'. They have a beautiful small
church building, and were in the process of adding a fellowship hall when
we were there. Pastor Millie invited us to do most of the service that day.
Among other things, Amanda gave her testimony.
Immediately after
the service we invited everyone to a picnic lunch in the brush arbor. During
the service Rachel was busy preparing the food so that it would be ready
on time. It was during this meal that we really had a chance to get to know
our brothers and sisters in the Lord who had up to this point been separated
from us by almost 1,500 miles.

During a VBS which
we held in the afternoon we also did the puppet show called 'The Heat is
On,' and a skit called 'Chicken Skit.'

After the VBS
we had an opportunity to play with the kids. For many of the team members
these times with the children will stand out as some of the most memorable
experiences of the entire adventure.

MORE SPIRITUAL WARFARE
When we left Wheatfields
Lynn wanted to take us to Canyon de Chelly National Monument located about
60 miles south of where we were. While it was definitely a beautiful
spot to visit, we had more on our minds than mere sightseeing. Canyon de
Chelly is also a stronghold of the Navajo religion. Not only is it considered
sacred because it is where the ancestors of the present day Navajo lived,
but the peyote priests who use the peyote blossom from cactus to receive
'visions' - much as drug addicts us mescaline and LSD - come there
in order to worship, perform ceremonies and receive direction from the gods.

As was true at both
Nenahnezad and Morgan Lake on Saturday evening, we entered into an intense
time of spiritual warfare lasting about 1 1/2 hours. At one of the overlooks
we sang, clapped in defiance to the spirits of darkness which had controlled
this area for several hundred years, and bound and rebuked them.
During one point
we felt led to shout in unison at the top of our lungs that 'Jesus Christ
is Lord.' The sound of that echoing back to us throughout the canyon was
indescribable. We asked the Lord not only to send a spirit of confusion
upon anyone who would seek to again use this area for demonic rituals, but
we asked Him to open the eyes of all those who had taken part in these rituals
and who had previously been blinded to the truth.
During our time
of praise, worship, warfare and prayer the Lord again provided us with a
1/4 rainbow as a
sign that we were continuing to fulfill that which He had called us to do!
We left the Canyon overjoyed that God had again used the team
in such a powerful way. But we also knew that we weren't finished.
