Covered Bridge Festival 2004
October 7th-11th

This year's festival was a little different that in years past. Many of the 'young people' who have been with us over the years are now married and have begun families of their own.  For some of them, this was their first camping trip ever.  Case in point:

Evan & Terah's first child Elijah was born this past June, and this was his first trip.

Early Friday evening he was enjoying his first campfire.  Next to Evan & Elijah is Uncle Jeremy and then Aunt Ellen.  Jeremy & Ellen are expecting their first child in March of 05.  Alice is holding Mike & Jonica's youngest 'Makana,' and Elijah's mom Terah is next to Alice. Jonica is the first lady on the right.

Here is a picture of our campsite.  We had showers during the day on Friday, so I put up the tarps just in case they continued through the

Actually, I spent all day Friday at the campsite by myself. The others weren't able to make it until late Friday afternoon.  I spent the better part of the day transferring notes from my old Bible into my new one. About a year ago I picked up a 4 version parallel Bible. My old one was falling apart ( 6 months ago I lost chapters 5 through 7 of Hebrews) and I had made so many notes it in that it has taken me that much time just to get half way through the New Testament.  So I enjoyed the oppor- tunity to spend a quiet day on that project.

Saturday dawned bright and beautiful. By the time we got to Mansfield we were ready to go - strollers & all.

Even though the makeup of our group has changed considerably over the years, Covered Bridge Festival is still the same, only a little more crowded each year.

By the end of the day however we are ready for a good dinner!
In this case it is our annual 'foil dinner.'  Here Evan & Jeremy are showing Jonica just how to put it together.

From everyone's smiles, you can see that it tasted great.

On the left are Jonica, Mike, Jeremy, Ellen & Alice.
On the right are Terah, Evan & Amos. The kids are somewhere, but I don't remember if they were in the pack&play portable play pen or not.

After a cool evening on Saturday we awoke Sunday morning to another picture perfect fall day. Here we are by the fire enjoying our breakfast of Eggs, Biscuits & Sausage gravy.

Alice & I had Monday off, so we stayed over Sunday evening. The others however had to either be at work on Sunday evening, or back on Monday. But before Evan, Terah & Elijah and Jeremy & Ellen left I asked Amos to take a family picture.  Needless to say, we are truly blessed by what the Lord has done in our family, but as Elijah is our first grandchild, and this was his first camping trip, I wanted a special picture. So here it is:

I thought I would include one last picture. As we were leaving the town of Bridgeton Sunday afternoon, the sun was low in the west, and it cast a beautiful light over this barn and maple tree. Needless to say, I couldn't resist this picture. Isn't God's creation beautiful!
